BiographyRobert Douglas WALLACE died at his home in Tasman Street, Wellington, aged 52. The death notice said he was "Sheep Inspector for the Province of Wellington". It was reported that he was "one of the family of John WALLACE senior who came out to Wellington in 1845". A former manager of the Union Bank of Australia in Lyttelton, Robert's many years of service as Sheep Inspector were acknowledged as "considerate and courteous", and he was described as having "modest and unobtrusive ways" and an "obliging disposition". After a long illness, he apparently died of pneumonia, leaving a family of eight children. [Evening Post, 25 Oct 1876]
