Description of GraveSubstantial family plot with an elaborate ironwork fence including a design motif of wreaths. The memorial is a solid marble base with inscriptions on all four sides in lead lettering. There is some decorative floral work but the main feature is a tall column deliberately truncated to indicate a life cut short.

BiographyJacob Monteith, son of Dr Monteith, was a pharmacist in Wellington. His sudden death occurred while he was working in his chemist shop in Manners Street, and was later diagnosed as a heart attack. He held the position of Lieutenant in the Volunteers, was a talented musician, and also a member of the Masonic fraternity. [Source: Evening Post, 7 Jan 1884] His funeral, with military honours, was on 11 Jan 1884.
