Description of GraveLarge family plot with a high ironwork fence in excellent condition. The two memorials lie flat on the ground, both white marble with lead lettering.

BiographyThe Hon Charles Johnson PHARAZYN lived to 101 years of age. He arrived here in 1841, initially running a store at Pipitea Point, then spent time as a run-holder in Palliser Bay before returning to business and local politics in Wellington. He was a widely known and respected member of MLA. His first wife Mary Catherine died in 1864. Jessica (RANKIN) was Charles' second wife and wrote several popular songs that were set to music by Irish musician Michael Balfe (who composed the popular opera The Bohemian Girl).
