BiographyMary, born in Edinburgh on 19 Feb 1827, was the third daughter of Frederick John KNOX (a surgeon) and his wife Margaret RUSSELL. Her parents brought their young family to New Zealand on the "Martha Ridgway" (on which Dr Knox was surgeon), arriving on 14 Nov 1840. Mary married William Waring TAYLOR, a storekeeper and businessman, on 14 Feb 1848. Their two daughters, Annie and Mary Russell, both died in childhood (in 1851 & 1854) and are also buried in the Cemetery. Mary died on 7 Sep 1866, but apparently was not buried with the children. Her plot number was not recorded. William Waring later left Wellington and died in Shannon on 11 Oct 1903, aged 83.
