The Friends’ self-guided First World War Memorial Walk is all set up and ready! It will take you around the 16 memorials in the Cemetery to the lads that enlisted to fight in the Great War. In most cases, these servicemen never returned home, but they were all related to people already buried in the Cemetery, and in many cases the memorials are on their parents’ graves.
Pick up a leaflet at the Seddon entrance (Kinross Street), at the Bowen Street entrance, or at the Chapel entrance on Bolton Street. Follow the map on the leaflet to find the 16 memorials. Information is provided at each site so that names become stories. Pause, read, reflect and remember so their names will not be forgotten.
Before or after taking this self-guided tour, visit the Anzac crosses on Salamanca Lawn above the Rose Garden.
Signs and information will be displayed from Saturday 21 April until Sunday 6 May.
